Chippenham Film Club’s January feature

Aftersun is a 2022 coming of age drama written and directed by Charlotte Wells in her feature directorial debut. Starring Paul Mescal (Normal People, God’s Creatures), Frankie Corio and Celia Rowlson-Hall, the film follows an 11-year-old girl Sophie, on holiday with her father at a Turkish resort on the eve of his 31st birthday.

The film tells the story through a series of memories and personal recollections, filtered through a haze of memory and imagination by the now-adult Sophie (Celia Rowlson-Hall) looking back on things she didn’t really understand at the time. Aftersun had its world premiere at Cannes on 21 May 2022, where Wells was nominated for the Golden Camera, Scottish-born, New York-based writer-director Wells picked up a whopping 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards.
