Chippenham’s Tiny Forest has had some TLC to get back on track.
A big thank you to the community for taking part in carbon measuring week. Thanks to Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Building Bridges and Chippenham Town Council, Jake and the Grounds Team who have been organising, watering over the hot summer and dealing with the weed piles etc.
Through One Chippenham we now have a regular half day a month volunteer to keep on top of things and make sure the routes to the benches and bench area are free of thistles to allow us all – including individuals, groups and schools – to enjoy nature at the Tiny Forest and take part in future citizen science events.
Chippenham’s first Tiny Forest was planted in Monkton Park in February 2022. It was planted by members of the local community, pupils from Monkton Park Primary School, and enthusiastic volunteers from Siemens Mobility, who also sponsored the Tiny Forest.
A Tiny Forest is a dense, native woodland that helps to mitigate the effects of climate change, supports urban wildlife and reconnects people with nature. The Tiny Forest is park of a wider plan to increase tree cover in the area, through the Monkton Park management plan.
