Age UK Wiltshire’s new Travel Friends service is now up and running. The service will support older people who have lost confidence in accessing public or community transport on their own.
Whether it’s getting to and from the shops, a doctor’s appointment, or a friend’s house – an Age UK Wiltshire Travel Friends volunteer will help people feel more comfortable and confident.
Through free sessions delivered safely from their home we can help people to make contact with the local community link scheme, get back on the Community Bus, start using the regular bus service again, go the supermarket, get to outpatients appointments at the hospital, etc.
People will be paired up with their own Travel Friend who will accompany them on any type of journey – whether it’s by foot, public transport, community transport or taxi – and will help them to build the confidence needed to travel independently.
If you’d like to make a referral, or would like to know more about the service, please call 07500 137 135, email travelfriends@ageukwiltshire.org.uk or visit the AGE UK website here.
